Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are specialists in the treatment of Oral Pathology. Our office works with dentists, physicians and other specialists in the area to diagnose and treat conditions that are found in and around the oral cavity.

Oral cancer is one of the most serious pathologies confronted by our specialty; Oral cancer continues to be seen in association with the use of tobacco and alcohol, but curiously, is often seen in older patients (most frequently women) who do not have a history of alcohol or tobacco use. The following changes within the mouth should prompt concern:

red and white patches inside the mouth

the presence of a sore that does not resolve within 2 weeks

a lump or bump that is not found on the opposite side of the mouth

interestingly, pain is not always seen with Oral cancer

A screenig exam is always accomplished in our office as part of our review of medical history and examination. We encourage all patients to visit their dentist regularly for such screeing examinations.
